The Legendary Beasts are a group of powerful mythical creatures that exist to protect Paradise from great evils. The term "Legendary Beast" is a catch-all term and does not actually refer to a specific species or creature- it is simply used to describe a group of various entities of different species who share a select few characteristics, have a large reputation, consider each other family, and work toward the same goal of helping and protecting the shapes of Paradise. They are their namesake universe's heroes, and they have their own equivalent to caretakers known as acolytes.

Story[]

The Legendary Beasts are mysterious creatures whose true origins are known only to a few. It is sometimes said that they were created by the Tree of Life, from which they get their powers and their close-knit bond.

Biology[]

The Legendary Beasts are technically immortal, but live on a 100-year cycle of death and rebirth. From birth to death, they grow nonstop, starting out as small as an egg and reaching up to sizes rivaling small mountains. The specific size and rate of growth depends on the individual. An exception is the Beast of the Virus, whose size fluctuates depending on how much of Paradise is corrupted.

Going Phoenix[]

When a Legendary Beast reaches their 100th birthday, they go through a fantastic death and rebirth often compared to that of a phoenix. Such, this phenomenon is nicknamed "Going Phoenix". They will often transform, fade into, or be destroyed by their associated element, from which their reborn self will emerge. They may sometimes also influence the weather or other natural events, such as causing a thunderstorm in the case of the Ocean's Alluring Voice, or a Green Moon in the case of the Poly Forest Wolf-Giant. Their next acolyte is typically there to witness the beast going phoenix, which inspires immense awe and terror in any shape who sees it, typically causing them to cry.

If a Legendary Beast is killed before their 100th birthday, they will still go phoenix when their 100th birthday comes.

Upon rebirth, Legendary Beasts will forget most of their previous life and take on a new identity. However, important information is retained, with some Beasts retaining more than others.

Behavior[]

Legendary Beasts are proud, instinct-driven creatures who will go to incredible lengths to accomplish their goals. They have a deep protective instinct for Paradise, and for life as a whole. However, they must be discreet about their true nature, especially in youth, to protect themselves from those who wish them harm. As a result, they typically only show their true colors when they feel safe. Despite this, it is common for Legendary Beasts to be seen as odd to other shapes.

When a Legendary Beast is (re)born, they imprint on the first shape they see, who becomes their acolyte. They form deep attachments with their acolytes, rely on them throughout their youth, and are typically inseparable from them. If their acolyte dies, they go into isolation and often stay in true form more often, simply doing their work until going phoenix. However, if they are not yet an adult at the time of their acolyte's death, they are typically too young to go off on their own and will instead seek out an adoptive acolyte.

Appearance[]

Being different species, the Legendary Beasts do not have much in common in the ways of anatomy or appearance. However, they share some calling cards that can be used to tell them apart from other mythical creatures of their species. In true form, all Legendary Beasts have a white triangle on their forehead, white eyes, and retain the same appearance across incarnations. In shape form, they can hide their white eyes, but will show them when they feel secluded, and are always the same color across incarnations.

Region[]

Most of the Legendary Beasts preside over a different region from each other. They all have a notable location that they return to at least once per incarnation.

Abilities[]

Elemental Powers[]

Most of the Legendary Beasts are associated with one of the four classical elements. They have powers revolving around creating or controlling their element, and will become, fade into, or be destroyed by their element when they go phoenix.

Shapeshifting[]

All Legendary Beasts have the power to shapeshift into whatever they please, though they have two main forms; their true form, which remains the same across incarnations, and their shape form, which they get by mimicking their acolyte. They also tend to shapeshift into creatures that resemble their true form, but they can truly become whatever they please.

Bond[]

Like canon heroes, the Legendary Beasts grow stronger with their bond to their acolyte. However, what's different is that they will begin passing certain powers down to their acolyte, some of which are permanent and genetic.
